Some major stars jumped on for the first ‘Thor’, so it’s no surprise that more big names wanted a piece of the action for the sequel, ‘Thor: The Dark World’. Joining the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and Chris Hemsworth this time around are Marvel newcomers Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje of ‘Lost’, Zachary Levi of ‘Chuck’ and ‘Tangled’, and the 9th Doctor himself Christopher Eccleston. But just when we thought that all the casting surprises were behind us, one more rising star has revealed his involvement in the next adventure for the Asgardian Avenger.

In a recent interview with Indiewire to promote his latest film, ‘The Sapphires’, Irish funny man Chris O’Dowd from ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘This Is 40’ revealed that he shot a scene for ‘Thor: The Dark World’. While talking about branching out from his comedic roles, he had this to say about his brief appearance in Alan Taylor’s Phase Two film:

“I think I’ll do more dramatic stuff and I think I have some stuff coming out that’s a bit more dramatic. I don’t know if I’d do an action movie because I don’t know if I could keep a straight face honestly, I just think it’s so silly. Like I love watching them but I can’t imagine me doing one. Actually, you know what I’ve done, just for fun because I didn’t think there was any way that I could be in a superhero movie, so I’ve done a scene in the new ‘Thor’ movie, just for that. I just do like one scene, which was fun.”

But this isn’t actually the first that O’Dowd mentioned this role. Back in November, the actor shared this on Twitter:

Who would have even guessed that he’d be talking about ‘Thor: The Dark World’ in this tweet? Surely not I. But the question still remains regarding who he’ll be playing. Comic Book Movie seems to think that O’Dowd will be playing Dr. Donald Blake, the human alias of the God of Thunder from the comics who is only mentioned as Jane Foster’s ex-boyfriend in the film. It’s possible that Jane went back to Blake while Thor was away in Asgard for a while, so it’s somewhat likely, but I’m more inclined to think that the actor will be playing a new character.

Who do you think Chris O’Dowd will end up playing in ‘Thor: The Dark World’? Do you think we’ll see more of him besides that date scene with Natalie Portman in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What’s the likelihood of him actually being Donald Blake? Speculate away in the comments.

‘Thor: The Dark World’, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Zachary Levi, and Anthony Hopkins, is scheduled to hit theaters on November 8, 2013.
