Now that Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is over, DC is looking to start their own cinematic universe to combat Marvel and their dominance in the superhero movie genre. For DC, it all starts with ‘Man of Steel’, the new Superman movie directed by the creative mind behind ‘Watchmen’ and ‘300’, Zack Snyder. Apparently, early reviews indicate that the film is actually pretty good as some are saying that it’s “a Nolan story with Snyder action”. This is nothing but good for DC and WB, so to continue their good PR, the studio has recently released some new photos.

Thanks to Movieweb, we can see these brand new promotional shots of cast members Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Mr. & Mrs. Kent and Henry Cavill and Amy Adams as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. You can check out those three pictures in the gallery below, along with a new shot of Cavill in his Superman costume:

Call me snarky if you want, but Clark’s disguise isn’t complete. He’s not wearing his glasses! How will he be able to hide his secret identity without his glasses?! Everyone knows that you can’t be mild mannered without glasses. Get on the ball, costume department.

In all seriousness, I’m curious to see how they handle the whole secret identity thing in ‘Man of Steel’. If it’s truly a “Nolan story”, then they’ve got to explain that somewhere, right?

In addition to these new promo shots, the cover of the latest Total Film magazine has been released and it features Cavill and Adams. Advertised as the Heroes And Villains Issue, this installment of the mag contains an in depth look at the first film in the all-new Superman franchise. You can see two versions of the cover below thanks to Coming Soon:

To learn more about the film, here’s the official synopsis for ‘Man of Steel’:

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El is a young twenty something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”

‘Man of Steel’ starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni, and Diane Lane hits theaters in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on June 14, 2013.
