There’s no denying the appeal that many have for DC’s superhero Batman.  After all, he’s one of the best examples for fans to emulate in terms of being a superhero. He’s not a mutant or alien. He doesn’t rely on some extraterrestrial object to become a superhero. He has no magical powers. He is human. Like everyone else in the world. Yet despite this and all the adversities thrown at him, he continues to stand for what he believes in to change the world.

This chord that strikes throughout Batman fans is the subject of a new documentary by Brett Culp. ‘Legends of the Knight’ explores the stories of Batman fans around the world whose lives have been significantly impacted by the Dark Knight.

“Human beings have always been stirred to greatness by the tales of heroes,” says Culp. “We connect with Batman because he is the super hero with no super powers. Just as he has committed himself to making the world better, we can dedicate ourselves to a noble cause and make a difference. This type of inspiration is a core function of storytelling in society.”

The first trailer for the documentary has been released and features an introduction by Culp:

As was mentioned in the trailer, Culp started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to help finish the film which includes filming more interviews and post-production work. In less than 2 days, the campaign has raised over $27,000 towards the goal of $31,850 and still has 29 more days before the campaign is over. Monies raised over the goal amount will allow Culp to be able to bring in color and audio specialist and allow him to invest in public screenings and distribution opportunities.

“Batman has become contemporary mythology,” Culp said in a press release. “We want to show how enduring stories like this shape us. Our goal is to inspire everyone on the planet who loves Batman to embody his spirit, engage with the world, and make a difference. Together, we are Batman.”

The documentary certainly hits a chord and it’s wonderful to be able to see how the Batman mythology has grown and how influential it has become. This is a wonderful project to be part of for any Batman fan! For more information on how you can be part of this film, head over to the ‘Legends of the Knight’ Kickstarter page.

If all goes well for Culp and his crew, ‘Legends of the Knight will be released sometime this summer.
