The Marvel Cinematic Universe is importing a few familiar faces from Westeros for their latest films. Last week, it was announced that Tyrion Lannister actor Peter Dinklage would be joining the cast of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. (Though it’s not actually an MCU film, I think you get what I mean.) Now, it appears that another ‘Game of Thrones’ alumni is in the running for James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
According to Latino Review, Jason Momoa, who’s known for his roles as Conan the Barbarian and Khal Drogo, has been added to the list of potential actors to fill the role of Drax the Destroyer. Previously, we learned that Isaiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, and Brian Patrick Wade all tested for the role of the human-souled alien warrior who’s mission is to destroy Thanos, but this report mentions that Momoa has been offered the role.
After this news broke, Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter revealed that while the actor was tested, he received no deal as of yet.
Then, the original scooper, El Mayimbe, tweeted that the offer was low, so both parties are currently in negotiations.
Either way, we know that the actor is in consideration for the role.
Personally, I think that it would be a great casting choice. Momoa certainly looks the part and he’s proven to do well with action scenes despite those scenes appearing in mediocre movies like Lionsgate’s ‘Conan the Barbarian’ and ‘Bullet to the Head’. But hey! He’s Khal Drogo! If Marvel wanted a mighty warrior, then this guy is a pretty good choice.
After we saw Chris Pratt fill the role of Star-Lord earlier this month, it appears that casting the rest of the Guardians has finally started to kick into gear. Hopefully soon we’ll find out who officially lands the role of Drax, as well as potential candidates for Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot, though it’s rumored that Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey could be in the running for the latter two characters.
