During the second half of last year, a plethora of names were added to the cast of ‘Kick-Ass 2’, the follow up to the 2010 film directed by Matthew Vaughn based on the Mark Millar comic series. In addition to Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Nicolas Cage reprising their roles from the first film, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, Robert Emms, Morris Chestnut, and many more signed on to take roles in the sequel. However, the biggest name added to the list by far had to be Jim Carrey. After some negotiating, the legendary funny man officially signed on the dotted line in September to play Colonel Stars, an ex-mafia lackey turned vigilante and the leader of the superhero team Justice Forever, which features Lieutenant Stripes, Insect Man (played by Emms), Doctor Gravity (played by Faison), and others.
After many months of unofficial images leaking, director Jeff Wadlow and the crew from ‘Kick-Ass 2’ have finally released the first official image from the film featuring the ‘Ace Ventura’ star alongside the title character and a patriotic pooch. Check out our first legit look at “Colonel Stars and Stripes” with his guard dog Sophia and Kick-Ass below, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly (via Collider), followed by the magazine’s caption for the picture:
In the action-comedy sequel ‘Kick-Ass 2’ (out June 28), the eponymous hero (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, right) joins a superhero team called Justice Forever, led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey, left). Chloe Grace Moretz reprises her role as Mindy, but has “given up Hit Girl and is trying to be a normal teenage,” says Jeff Wadlow, who picks up the directing reigns from Matthew Vaughn.
