One of the things that make comic book superheroes appealing is that when all hope is lost, they come in to save the day. No doubt Stan Lee can be considered a modern day superhero and he just proved once again why he’s so revered in the industry.

Last week, Bowe Cleveland was a targeted victim of a school shooting in California. The 16-year-old student was shot in the chest and abdomen and had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital. He underwent intense surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma. Although Cleveland’s condition is no longer life-threatening, he still has a long road to recovery as doctors are slowly waking him out of his coma.

In a show of support, his friends and family have taken to wearing Spider-Man T-shirts during this time as he is a big fan of Stan Lee and Spider-Man comics. His friends have also reached out into social media in hopes to contact Lee to tell him about Cleveland as he lays in the hospital. They have spread the word through Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #StanLeemeetBowe, and like the superheroes that Lee has created, the Man himself responded to their plea.

In a YouTube video for Cleveland on his Facebook page, Lee spoke words of encouragement stating, “I’m sending you this message to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you, as are the thoughts and prayers of all of Marveldom assembled.” He went on to say that he will be sending over some signed posters and comics to cheer him up while he’s “on the mend” and to “never forget (that) you’ve got a whole superhero cheering section rooting for you.”

The Generalissimo has one big heart and it can be seen why this man is so revered throughout the world. Stan Lee is a superhero among superheroes and we at ScienceFiction.com join him in wishing Cleveland a heartfelt speedy recovery.
