‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ was one of the last movies that MGM released before the studio went bankrupt. Released in 2010, it pretty much tanked at the box office (the $34 million budgeted film only made $50.2 million at the theaters), but it was one of those movies that developed a cult following through DVD and cable airings. Now it looks like MGM is thinking it’s time to take another dip in the hot tub.

According to reports, MGM is in ‘exploratory talks’ with Rob Corddry (‘Warm Bodies,’ ‘Escape From Planet Earth,’ ‘, Craig Robinson (‘This is the End,’ ‘The Office’) and Clark Duke (‘Kick Ass,’ ‘Kick Ass 2,’ ‘The Office’) to reprise their roles for a follow-up film. No word about whether John Cusack will be involve in the sequel as he has not yet been approached about it.

‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ is centered on four men (Cusack, Corddry, Robinson and Duke) who are unhappy with how their lives turn out and find themselves back in 1986 after spending an alcohol infested night in a time travelling hot tub. Well, 3 of them were astral-projected back into their bodies and the one friend that wasn’t born yet physically travelled back in time. The film paid homage to the 1980’s (much like ‘Back to the Future’ did with the ‘50’s) but with an “R” rating lens.

Although the idea for a sequel has been mulled around for the past few months, negotiations with the actors are still in the very early stages and could fall through. However, if the three actors are on board and a deal is made, MGM plans to fast track the project.

No word as to what time period the friends would travel to but many are hoping the group will be transported back to the 1990’s. Since the project is still in its infancy, we’ll bring you more news as it develops.

Until then, take a blast from the past below watching the red band trailer for ‘Hot Tub Time Machine.’
