Disney has released the first TV spot for ‘Oz: the Great and Powerful,’ Sam Raimi’s vision of the origin story of the great Wizard most are familiar with in the MGM musical ‘The Wizard of Oz.’

While the trailers and images have already established that the film will be visually stunning when it comes to the Land of Oz, movie goers have yet to really get to know about the three witches in the film: Elanora (Rachel Weisz), Theodora (Mila Kunis) and Glinda (Michelle Williams).  The TV spot takes care of this as it showcases the three sisters asking if Oscar (James Franco) if he’s ‘the great man’ they’ve been waiting for to defeat the Wicked Witch.

The more material I see of this movie, the more I really hope that this film lives up to its potential.  I’m a sucker for happy endings in fairy tales, aren’t you?

‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ will be released in theaters on March 8th. Will you be off to see the Wizard?

Synopsis:

When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot — fame and fortune are his for the taking — that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity — and even a bit of wizardry — Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
