Chad Michael Murray is in negotiations to join Nicholas Cage in the reboot of ‘Left Behind,’ a film based on the first novel of the book series of the same name written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.

‘Left Behind’ was first made into a film back in 2001 and starred Kirk Cameron (‘Growing Pains’). The low budget film spawned two sequels, ‘Left Behind: Tribulation Force’ and ‘Left Behind: World at War.’ While the first films were more Christian-based in nature, this reboot of ‘Left Behind’ will be more of a disaster movie focusing on a group of people trying to cope in a post-rapture apocalyptic world.

Many know Murray from his stint on ‘One Tree Hill,’ ‘Gilmore Girls’ and ‘Dawson’s Creek.’ He can be seen next in the upcoming horror film ‘A Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia’ which will be released on February 2013. ’ If Murray does sign on to this newest adaptation of the book, he will take over the role played by Cameron, journalist Cameron “Buck” Williams.

‘Left Behind’ will also star Nicholas Cage who will play the role of Rayford Steele, leader of the Tribulation Force whose goal is to counter the plans of the Antichrist. The script was written by John Patus (who had also worked on the scripts for the original ‘Left Behind’ trilogy) and will be directed by renown stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong who has also served as a Second Unit Director for such films as ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ ‘Thor,’ ‘Starship Troopers,’ ‘I am Legend,’ and the original ‘Total Recall’ and many, many more.

Filming on the $15million budget movie is expected to begin sometime in the spring in Baton Rouge with an eye toward a late 2013 release.
