At last month’s Comic-Con, ‘Once Upon a Time’ show creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis teased fans in Hall H with a Season 2 promo that hinted at Captain Hook’s presence in Storybrooke.  Now it looks like the residents of the city should be taking out their ticking clocks as Colin O’Donoghue has been signed on to play the iconic fairy tale villain.

This marks a return to the ABC network for the Irish actor as he had been cast in the pilot episode of ‘Indentity’ starring Angela Bassett and Tony Curran (‘Defiance,’ ‘Doctor Who’) and centered on an elite police unit formed to combat the explosion of identity-related crime. The pilot was not picked up to series. O’Donoghue also had a short stint as Duke Philip of Bavaria on Showtime’s ‘The Tudors’ and made his big screen debut in the film ‘The Rite’ starring Sir Anthony Hopkins.

The Captain (O’Donoghue) will make his debut in episode 4 of the show and is described by ABC as “a handsome pirate ship captain who never shies away from a fight.” Although he gives off a gentlemanly air, he is truly vindictive in nature.  The Captain will play a pivotal role in the bad fortune that has befallen Storybrooke.

O’Donoghue will be joining the growing list of actors who have been added to the cast which includes Sarah Bolger (as Princess Aurora), Jamie Chung (as Mulan), Meghan Ory (as Ruby/Red Riding Hood), Emilie de Ravin (as Belle), Julian Morris (as Prince Philip) and Sinqua Walls (as Sir Lancelot).

‘Once Upon a Time’ returns to ABC airing Sundays at 8PM ET/PT starting September 30th.
