Cheyenne Jackson showing how “bow ties are cool”

Now that the immediate family unit has been cast for the NBC pilot ‘Mockingbird Lane,’ the producers are now focusing their attention on the guest starring roles. First to sign is ’30 Rock’ alum, Cheyenne Jackson.

Although Jackson is better known for his ’30 Rock’ role as Danny Baker, he has also guest starred on the shows ‘Glee,’ ‘Life on Mars,’ ‘Ugly Betty,’ and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’ He’s also an accomplished singer having sung on the soundtrack for not only ’30 Rock’ but also on the Tony Awards. He just signed on for a role of Jerry O’Rourke, Liberace’s former lover and right-hand man on stage, for Steven Soderbergh’s HBO Liberace biopic called ‘Behind the Candelabra’ that will also star Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, and Scott Bakula.

In ‘Mockingbird Lane,’ Jackson will be playing Eddie’s (Mason Scott) scout leader, Scout Master Steve who just happens to be a new cheery Scout Master. He is a “widower with no children of his own who becomes smitten with Lily.”

You may recall, Portia de Rossi was just recently cast in the role of Lily after Mariana Klaveno became unavailable. Scout Master Steve(Jackson) will have to contend with Herman (Jerry O’Connell) as well as Grandpa (Eddie Izzard) if his crush goes any further. Of course he’d be better off with Marilyn (Charity Wakefield) but compared to Lily, she may be a little too plain.

Executive producer and creator of the pilot, Bryan Fuller has said that his reboot version of ‘The Munsters’ would be darker, edgier and more dramatic.  Daily Dead posted an early plot description of the pilot and from the looks of it, Fuller was not kidding around. Here’s the synopsis:

“…10-year-old Eddie Munster is unaware that he’s a werewolf and that his family is composed of terrifying creatures. The madness begins when a baby bear attacks a scouting trip, only it turns out that this “bear” is actually Eddie transformed into a werewolf. Eddie is unaware of his metamorphosis and it forces the family to move in order to protect the family secret. The coming of age story gets weirder as he fights against his family when he learns of a shocker: they’re a family of flesh-eaters!”

As filming is to begin within the next month, ‘Mockingbird Lane’ isn’t scheduled to air on NBC until sometime in the midseason. Hopefully we’ll soon see what the stars will look like in full make up and costume before then.
