In the first film adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’ back in 1976, actress Piper Laurie played the role of Carrie’s insanely religious mother Margaret and did a bang-up job of it! Now that Columbia Pictures is going back for yet another adaptation of ‘Carrie’, who could fill Laurie’s psychotic shoes?
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that they have inside word that Julianne Moore is in talks for the role of Margaret. If this is true, I couldn’t be happier. Moore is a great actress and is sure to bring some depth to the character. Moore is most famous for her roles in ‘The Big Lebowski’, ‘Boogie Nights’, and ‘Hannibal’ but one of my favorites is still her turn as Scarlett in ‘The Ballad of G.I. Joe’.
Moore’s telekinetic daughter Carrie will be played this time around by Hollywood’s current “it” girl Chloe Moretz (‘Hugo’). Moretz can next be seen in the Tim Burton adaptation of ‘Dark Shadows’ on May 11th.
The new ‘Carrie’ will be directed by Kimberly Pierce (‘Boys Don’t Cry’) from a script by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (‘Glee’). The film is set to release on March 13, 2013.
To whet your appetite until more details arrive, here’s an awesome fan-made teaser poster that Pierce recently posted to her Facebook page:
