‘Contraband’ director Baltasar Kormakur is putting together a film adaptation of Steven Grant’s BOOM! Studios graphic novel, ‘2 Guns’ for Universal. The film centers on a DEA agent and an undercover navel intelligence officer who unknowingly investigates each other as each steals money from the mob. Working from a script by TV writer Blake Masters, Kormakur is calling in Denzel Washington and his ‘Contraband’ leading man, Mark Wahlberg, to star.

To round out the rest of the cast, it looks like Paula Patton, who recently played the female lead in ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ opposite Tom Cruise, is in talks to appear in ‘2 Guns’. Deadline reports that Patton will play Washington’s love interest. This shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for her since she also played his love interest in ‘Déjà Vu’. Recently, she just completed shooting on the ensemble drama ‘Disconnect’, which stars Jason Bateman and Alexander Skarsgard.

Here’s a full synopsis of the story from its publisher:

“A pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it’s a great way to score — considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn’t know is that Steadman’s a Naval Intelligence officer. They’re both cops! And neither one knows that they’re not robbing the mob, they’ve been set up to steal $50 million from the CIA! A light-hearted crime romp in the vein of Ocean’s Thirteen and The Italian Job from comics legend, Steven Grant!”

It will be interesting to see the pair of Wahlberg and Washington together on screen. The movie sounds like it will be quite playful, so to see these two who normally play hardass cops in these roles should be interesting. What do you guys think?
