After high school, I started to sleep in on Saturday mornings (or in some cases, I would just get to sleep on Saturday mornings), so this completely went unnoticed on my radar: Cartoons have returned to weekend mornings. Sure, they’re not on basic channels like WB or Fox anymore, but we’ll take what we can get. If you get Cartoon Network, The Hub, or Disney XD, and are willing to get up early on a Saturday or Sunday for some awesome cartoons, then you my friend are in for a treat.

As a life-long Marvel fan, I’m most excited about Disney XD’s Marvel Universe block that kicks off this Sunday, April 1st. Starting at 11:00am, we’ll get a block of ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ starring Drake Bell and a plethora of other talented people, both on screen and off, and ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’, which will be going into its second season. Scattered throughout the block will also be some short-form programming that spotlights Marvel heroes. Thanks to TV Guide, we have the official descriptions of these shorts:

‘Fury Files’: Top-secret access to S.H.I.E.L.D. video dossiers on key Marvel heroes, including Iron Fist, Power Man, Nova and White Tiger and the villains they face, are animated with mix of traditional animation and motion comic art.

‘Marvel Mash-Up’: The Marvel Universe is turned upside down with these hilarious and unexpected takes on iconic Marvel heroes and villains, featuring classic animation edited with a comedic twist.

‘Animated Reality’: Stunt and special effects experts showcase the epic moves of favorite Marvel superheroes including Captain America and Spider-Man.

‘What Would It Take?’: Get a glimpse into the science and modern technology required to create the heroes’ gadgets, abilities and tech in real life, ranging from Iron Man’s jet propulsion boots to Iron Fist’s power-packed punch.

‘Master Class’: Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, explains the artistic vision behind Marvel’s greatest superheroes and shows how artists bring them to life.

And thanks to GeekDad, we have an exclusive preview of the first edition of ‘Fury Files’ that will air this Sunday. In this spotlight, we get to know the Avengers’ resident master marksman, Hawkeye, a little better. Check out the video below, and be sure to tune in to Disney XD every Sunday for the Marvel Universe block!
