If you remember the movie ‘Gremlins,’ then you may want to take notes on this movie development as Paramount has just hired ‘Chipwreck’ director, Mike Mitchell, to helm ‘Jitters,’ a movie that is said to be in the same vein as ‘Gremlins.’

‘Jitters’ is described as a “family actioner” centering on a dysfunctional family who moves into a new neighborhood where they begin to be terrorized by genetically altered bugs.”

In development since 2009, the project was written by Marc Haimes, a former DreamWorks executive, who has produced the movies ‘Men in Black II,’ ‘Hotel for Dogs,’ and ‘The Legend of Zorro.’

Mitchell is better known for his work in the animation world directing such movies as ‘Alvin and the Chipmucks: Chipwrecked’ and ‘Shrek Forever After’ both earning millions of dollars at the box office worldwide. He also directed the surprisingly enjoyable Disney superhero movie ‘Sky High.’

While it is supposed to be a family film, it’s probably a little scarier than, say, ‘The Adventurers of Tintin’ as ‘Gremlins’ was a bit dark but fun. Hey, kids like to be scared too, right?
