The upcoming found footage style film ‘Chronicle’ is due out next month and Machinima has a disturbing new clip. One the characters who gains telekinetic powers, does exactly what you would expect a brooding teenager to do if he could move things with his mind: he tortures a spider.

‘Chronicle’ Movie Clip:

Director Josh Trank (‘Big Fan’) is making a habit of delving into tortured psyches. The clip shows that ‘Chronicle’ won’t be all teenage shenanigans and hijinks. If the trailer that was first attached to ‘Paranormal Activity 3’ is any indication, at least one of the teenagers strays from innocent pranks and gets into an exciting showdown with the authorities.

The story is somewhat reminiscent of British series ‘Misfits’ and the style is aped from ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘Paranormal Activity,’ but the plot promises to be original. The script is by Max Landis the son of legendary director John Landis (‘Blues Brothers’, ‘Animal House’).

There’s also a new 60 second spot that features footage previously seen in the full trailer. We can see a character with Luke Cage style invulnerability, people flying through the air, the aforementioned telekinesis and some pretty exciting action. Somewhat under the radar in a year of big splash superhero films, ‘Chronicle’ may be a surprise sleeper hit.

‘Chronicle’ Movie Commercial:

‘Chronicle’ will hit theaters on February 3, 2012.
