It may not be the cross over event that most fans were hoping but it’s exciting news none the less! Variety is reporting that British actor-writer-director Noel Clarke will be joining the cast of J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek 2’.
As with all ‘Star Trek 2’ news, not much is known about Clarke’s role except that he will play a family man who has a wife and a young daughter. (No, I don’t know if he’ll be part of the crew donning a red shirt but I will be very upset if he is!). Other than this, Paramount is keeping mum about the character. We don’t even know if he’ll be a good guy or bad or how big a role he has.
Many know Clarke from his work as Micky Smith on the BBC show ‘Doctor Who.’ He also had a small role in the Neil Marshall film ‘Centurion’ and in ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’ which starred Andy Serkis (‘Planet of the Apes’, ‘Lord of the Rings’). Not only has he won the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Rising Star Award in 2009, he has since started his own production company, Unstoppable Entertainment, where he writes, directs and produces his own films. Some of his project’s include ‘Kidulthood’, its sequel ‘Adulthood’, and ‘4.3.2.1.’ starring Emma Roberts (‘Scream 4’, ‘Nancy Drew’). Clarke can be seen this year in a sci-fi film that he wrote, produced and will star in called ‘Storage 24.’
Clarke will be joining Alice Eve and Peter Weller who were officially announced last month as part of the cast. As a Whovian, I’m very excited with this announcement as I think he truly deserves to break into Hollywood – and what a fantastic way to do it! I’m already wishing next year was here just to see the movie!
The yet untitled ‘Star Trek 2’ movie will beam into theaters on May 17, 2013 and brings the return of Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Karl Urban (Bones), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Anton Yelchin (Chekov) and John Cho (Sulu).
