It seems the Super Women are facing a new threat… not The Cheetah or Magneto or blatant sexism.  No, four of the most powerful heroes in comics have turned their attention to… Breast Cancer!

In Mozambique, the Associação da Luta Contra o Cancer (ALCC) has unveiled an ad campaign starring two DC icons, Wonder Woman and Catwoman, and two Marvel icons, Storm and She-Hulk, urging women to examine their breasts monthly to prevent this disease, which is the most common form of cancer among women.

Each ad features the same comic book style caption: “Nobody’s immune to breast cancer. When we talk about breast cancer there are no women or super women. Everybody has to do self-examination monthly. Fight with us against the enemy and, when in doubt, talk to you doctor.”  Take a look at the pictures for yourself here:

Obviously, super women are typically quite well-endowed.  Now at least this is being utilized in a very positive manner.  (I am surprised Power Girl wasn’t included, but I suppose she isn’t a big enough… name.)  The images, while graphic, are not even remotely sexual.  These images are light years better than those awful preachy educational comics in the 80s, like when Captain America urged kids to shut their refrigerators or Power Pack kept some kid from getting molested.  (REAL COMICS!)

At any rate, the art is by a female artist named Halfy.  Here is a link to her DeviantArt page.  I’m not positive these are actually endorsed by DC or Marvel, since none of the characters appears in full, nor are there any notations of copyright or trademark.  But it’s still great to see our female heroes standing up to a threat that endangers more women than The Penguin’s latest scheme!
