Audiences in North America will have Universal to thank when Luc Besson’s new sci-fi movie comes out. That’s because Universal has just acquired the distribution rights for Besson’s untitled film that will star Angelina Jolie.

The movie is shrouded in secrecy as no information about plot or even what role Jolie will have in the film has been publicized. What is known is that Besson wrote the script and he will produce and direct this dramatic action thriller. Production is set to being in April 2012 in Paris.

Sources close to the production company EuropaCorp, have compared the plot of this movie to the director’s 1994 assassin film ‘Leon: The Professional’ (which he also wrote and directed) but with a sci-fi element akin to ‘Inception.’ They’re also saying that this movie will be his directorial return to the sci-fi/thriller genre since ‘The Fifth Element.’

Although it’s been awhile since Besson has done a sci-fi movie, he does have one that he wrote and produced which will be released next year starring Guy Pearce called ‘Lock Out.’ If this untitled Angelina Jolie movie is anything like the trailer for ‘Lock-Out’ then we’re in for a real treat.

Supposedly, this untitled movie is set to release sometime in 2013, so once we know what’s going on, we’ll, of course, let you know!
