Were you watching HBO last night? Right before the season finale of ‘Boardwalk Empire’, HBO premiered a teaser for the second season of Game of Thrones’ titled ‘Cold Winds are Rising.’

A few weeks ago, we ran down a list of new faces that will be making their debut in season two along with an in-production featurette. Now we have an official teaser that seems to set the stage for an all-out war for the iron throne of Westeros.

The trailer is narrated by Stephen Dillane who will be playing the role of Stannis Baratheon, King Robert’s younger brother. Although he never appeared in season one, he was referred to by Ned Stark. Ned, realizing that Robert’s children are not his biological heirs, insisted that Stannis take the throne as Robert’s next of kin. Now that King Robert’s throne is vacated (if you haven’t seen the episode, you’ll definitely need to see why. Those who have seen episode 9 know what I’m talking about!), Stannis has now surfaced to claim the iron throne of Westeros “by right, and birth and blood.” Of course, this will not bode well for the Lannisters or anyone else that opposes him as Stannis makes it known in the trailer, “They will bend a knee or I will destroy them.”

“The Cold Winds are Rising” won’t begin until April 2012, but from the looks of the trailer, it will be a bitter season for some of the characters. Are you looking forward to ‘Game of Thrones?’ Watch the trailer below and tell us what you’re looking forward to in season 2!
