Before you groan and say “Not another remake!”, this news actually involves the original 1984 movie with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Rick Moranis! In celebration of the film, Sony Pictures Repertory will be bringing ‘Ghostbusters’ back to the big screen for a special limited engagement.

‘Ghostbusters’ will be shown in theaters across the US, Canada and in various international markets this month. In the US, Sony has it screening in approximately 500 theaters. ‘Ghostbusters’ is scheduled to screen once a day every Thursday starting on October 13 and the movie will be shown in 2K digital with 5.1 surround sound. To find a theater that is showing  ‘Ghostbusters’, you can visit Fandango for movie show times and to purchase tickets. Those outside the US can visit Park Circus for information and showtimes. Fans can also add ‘Ghostbusters’ on Facebook, follow them on Twitter or visit the ‘Ghostbusters’ website to be in the first in the know about when and where they can partake in this unique theatrical experience.

“We’re delighted to be bringing Ghostbusters back to the big screen — this is a special celebration of the movie, giving the fans a chance to see it on the big screen in perfect digital presentation. As we head towards Halloween, we ain’t afraid of no ghosts, but just the same, we’re glad that everyone’s favorite paranormal eliminators are on the case.” says Rory Bruer, president of Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures, in a statement released last month.

Whether this is Sony’s sneaky way of seeing if people are still interested in the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise enough to give ‘Ghostbusters 3’ a green light is uncertain, but the timing seems more than coincidental given Dan Aykroyd’s statements about making another sequel.

Regardless, the humor of the original ‘Ghostbusters’ withstands the test of time and it will be great for those who have only seen the movie via DVD or on television to see it on a big screen!

As an added treat, do you remember the Ghostbuster commercial that Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) noticed while putting away her groceries? The scene would cut between the commercial and her reactions to the ad. Well, here is the full uncut version of that commercial for the paranormal extermination service founded by Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis). Who ya gonna call when you or your family sees a “spook, spector or ghost?”
