There has been much secrecy over the plot of Ridley Scott’s movie ‘Prometheus’. At first it was thought it would be a prequel to the highly successful movie ‘Alien’. But many months and possibly re-writes later, we find that it has nothing to do with that movie, although fans have been teased by Scott that may be “able to recognize strands of ‘Alien’ DNA in it.

Now an official synopsis that gives more hints to the storyline has appeared on the official ‘Prometheus’ Facebook page. Here is the synopsis:

“Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.”

I don’t know about you, but I find this very exciting! Many movies and mythologies have explored the concept that what we think are gods may have been alien visitors. ‘Prometheus’ has the potential to spark that conceptual theory in the realm of a fictional sci-fi storyline. Even the title, ‘Prometheus’, gives some indication of this concept. If you recall Greek mythology, Prometheus created man out of water and clay and gave them the knowledge of science, math, medicine and art allowing them to gain free will against the gods and be uncontrolled by them. Jump to Scott’s movie and you can see how a battle can ensue afterwards.

With all the remakes of science fiction movies coming out in the next couple years (‘Logan’s Run’, ‘Short Circuit’, ‘War Games’ to name a few) I’m excited to see a movie that hasn’t been made before! How about you? So, what do you think of the synopsis for ‘Prometheus’?

‘Prometheus’ is set to be released on June 8, 2012 and stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, Patrick Wilson and Sean Harris.
