If the teaser clip of ‘The Thing’ didn’t get to you, Universal Studios just released a red band trailer of the movie which gives you a glimpse of the creature terrorizing the Norwegian scientific team.

What’s a red band trailer? Well, it’s the trailer equivalent rating of an R rated movie. That means the content in the trailer is intended for mature audiences (R or NC-17) as it contains harder edged material (more violence, harsher language, etc.).  So be forewarned…that and the fact that some may think that the trailer contains spoilers:

Since this is a prequel, the audiences pretty much know how the movie is going to end as it sets up the 1982 John Carpenter version. The one thing the movie has on its side, however, is that the special effects process has come a long way since the early 80’s, so you can do more with the image of the “Thing.” But will this be enough? One of the reasons why the 1982 version was so successful was because it was able to exploit the isolation, tension and suspense of the expedition wondering who was human and who wasn’t. This trailer does give away some of that suspense.

So, does the trailer give you chills to see the movie or are you lukewarm to the whole thing?

‘The Thing’ will be coming to theaters on October 14th and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (‘Final Destination’, ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World’), Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje (‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’), Joel Edgerton (‘Star Wars Episode III’, ‘Star Wars Episode IV’), and Eric Christian Olsen (‘NCIS: Los Angeles’).
