Sigourney Weaver will return as Dr. Grace Augustine in the blockbuster hit film, Avatar 2. Avatar became the highest grossing film of all time last year, taking an estimated $2.7 billion at the box office after being released in December 2009.

ComingSoon caught up with Weaver at a recent press junket and she had no qualms in telling the world that her character from ‘Avatar‘ would be making appearance in the sequel.

Don’t worry, I will be back. Jim [Cameron] says no one ever dies in science fiction. He’s told me the stories for the next two movies and I have to say that they’re absolutely wonderful and there’s a real treat in store. Now we just have to make them.

Sigourney starred alongside Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Michelle Rodriguez.

The second and third Avatar films are said to be set up to shoot back-to-back with a possible release date of 2014 suggested for the first sequel.

On a side note, fans of the classic Ghostbusters films will be happy to hear that Sigourney is said to return to that franchise as well.

In Slashfilm Weaver is also quoted in this excerpt: Having the female lead in the first two ‘Ghostbusters’ films have made Weaver an interview target now that a third one is entering the pre-production stage.

I have yet to read the script. I’ve had a couple of calls and I know they’re rewriting and all I said was that I hope my son, Oscar, has grown up to be a Ghostbuster and Ivan Reitman said yes. Beyond that, I have no idea. I hope it comes together, but we already did two wonderful films and, if we have to let this one go, that’s fine.
