Contemporary space adventure film, ‘Europa’, currently in pre-production, will be shopped to distributors at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, according to Deadline.

‘Europa’ is the story of a six-person team of astronauts from various international space stations who are sent by a private sector corporation to be the first manned mission to Jupiter’s fourth moon. An interesting cast and crew are already attached to the project including: Sharlto Copley (‘District 9’, ‘The A-Team’ and the currently filming ‘Elysium’), Michael Nyquist (‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’,’The Girl Who Played with Fire’, ‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest’), Anamaria Marinca (‘4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days’), and Asian superstar Daniel Wu.

Acclaimed Ecuadorian director Sebastian Cordero (‘Chronicles’, ‘Rage’, ‘Pescador’) is set to helm the science fiction adventure. This appears to be his first foray into science fiction. One of the most interesting parts of this film is that Eugenio Caballero (‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, ‘Resident Evil: Extinction’) will be handling the production design. He’s previously worked on several of Cordero’s films and his work is visually stunning and unique. When someone of his caliber is hired to create the look of the film, it gives me hope that another interesting science fiction film might be the result.

Wayfare Entertainment is funding the film, but a production start date has not yet been announced. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
