Labor Day weekend will be a great weekend for sci fi fans! The Syfy channel just announced that it will host a non-stop Labor Day science fiction extravaganza which will include a ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ marathon, 2 days of airing theatrical movies and a day filled with vampires and werewolves.

The mega event starts on Friday, September 2 with a 12 hour marathon of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ starting at 8AM ET/PT. The SyFy channel has been promoting this as a viewer’s choice marathon so that means you can decide which episodes air! Just head over to the SyFy Next Generation poll and vote now! You can vote for up to 10 episodes and the ones with the most votes will be shown. But hurry, because the polls close tomorrow, Friday, August 19 at 11:59PM ET/PT.

It’s kind of bad when the ex-SciFi Channel has to promote the times that it’s actually airing science fiction for a full day.

      LMAO, So TRUE Scott!

    • Dirk Van Tilborg

Ouch! That was harsh, but true!

I’ve never been one to withhold my opinions. Watching a channel that made it big while catering to a certain market in programming resort to watering itself down for public consumption makes me ill. I love science fiction enough not to want to see Syfy go the way of MTV. If Syfy becomes SF and starts airing even more reality shows, I’ll drop my subscription and turn to other venues for my sci-fi fix.

Ehh!  Not a great selection. Isn’t this called the Science Fiction Channel?
Want real sci fi?  Start with The Trumbell Films (all the rest derive from those):
    2001
    Silent Running
    Andromeda Strain
    Star Trek the Motion Picture
    Brainstorm
Close Encounters of the Third Kind

And then you can add some more recent classics.
    Alien
    The First Star Wars film
    Terminator 2
    Tron Legacy

    Highlander?
    The Rocketeer?

I mean, they were OK, they were worth watching once.
But they simply don’t compare to the classics.
