The news is finally out! ‘Spider-Man: Edge of Time’ will be released on October 4th.  Activision made the announcement at Comic Con and even allowed some players to get a hands- on preview of the game.

Gamers will see quite a few changes from the last years ‘Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions’ game. Spider-Man 2099 will be able to move more quickly and use decoy and stealth techniques to take out his enemies while the Amazing Spider-Man will be more nimble, more powerful and use his web powers more. What makes ‘Spider- Man: Edge of Time’ exciting, is that Peter David penned the story for this game. He is the only creator of a Marvel comic that has also written a story for a game based on his creation.

In ‘Spider-Man: Edge of Time’, the player will get to control two Spideys:  Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man of 2099 who was last seen in the game ‘Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions’) and Peter Parker (the present and Amazing Spider-Man). Time travel is a big component in the framework of ‘Edge of Time’. Alchemax scientist Walter Sloan (voiced by Val Kilmer of ‘Batman’) travels back in time to the present to use his knowledge of the future to gain power and fortune. He builds the Alchemax Company ahead of its time which causes the future 2099 to change where Alchemax now rules the world. Miguel O’Hara (Spiderman 2099) finds out what Sloan did and realizes this change in timeline also caused the death of Peter Parker. Miguel must now travel back in time to present day New York City to stop Sloan from altering history and prevent the death of Peter Parker at the hands of Anti-Venom.

Joining Val Kilmer, are the voices of Laura Vandervoot (Supergirl in ‘Smallville’) as Mary Jane and Katie Sackhoff ( Cpt. Starbuck in ‘Battlestar Galactica’) as Black Cat. Also returning are Christopher Daniel Barnes as Miguel O’Hara (Christopher was also the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 1994-1998 animated series ‘Spider-Man ‘) and Josh Keaton as Peter Parker (Josh will also be the voice of Green Lantern in the new ‘Green Lantern’ animated series).

Reviews of the game seem very promising, but what makes this game really intriguing is that in the latter half, Miguel and Peter will switch timelines. Peter Parker will fight villains in the year 2099 and Miguel will be challenged to fight them in the present. This will make the players have to explore new tactics as the heroes are out of their comfort zone keeping this game fresh.

‘Spider-Man: Edge of Time’ will be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo 3DS. If you can’t wait until its release on October 4th, here’s a few previews to whet your appetite:
