The familiar battle cry of “ThunderCats! Ho!” will once again hit the airwaves starting Friday, July 29, when the Cartoon Network premieres it’s reboot of the classic ‘ThunderCats’ series.

To help promote the new reboot of ‘ThunderCats’, producers Ethan Spaulding and Michael Jelenic announced to the crowd at Comic Con yesterday that in this animated series, the mythology of the ‘ThunderCats’ has been updated and there is more of a quest-like storyline. This time around the series will focus on a hero’s journey to fulfill his ultimate destiny. Also updated was how the characters looked.  But even with this redesign, they made sure the characters would still be very familiar to the original fans. In homage to the original series, Lenny Kenny (who was the original voice of Lion-O) was hired to play the voice of King Claudus, Lion-O’s father. Speaking to the crowd at Comic Con, he comments on his involvement in the new series as, “Fantastic. I’m twice blessed.”

ThunderCats will follow the adventures of Lion-O, the young heir to the throne of Thundera. When Thundera is attacked by the lizard people, Lion-O leads his companions Tygra, Cheetara, Panthro and others (yes, that includes Snarf!) on a mission to find the Book of Omens and the magic stones of legend. But in his way are adversaries like Mumm-Ra, the ancient evil sorcerer and Slithe, the dangerous lizard general. To help him achieve his mission, he has with him the Sword of Omens, a powerful sword with amazing powers.
