One of our amazing writers here, Amy, recently posted an article touting her love of big brained MALE Sci-Fi heroes. Well, being a red blooded American male myself, I simply felt compelled to follow up her intriguing article. This time, boys and girls, we will be paying homage to the brightest female characters television has to offer! So enjoy, my friends, and do feel free to let us know if you feel I left someone out!

Samantha Carter/Helen Magnus

Amanda Tapping, Stargate SG-1 & Sanctuary:

OK, I know what you’re going to say, but hear me out. Amanda Tapping is like the Geek Messiah, so to add Sam and not Magnus would in fact be sacrilege. Sam is hyper-intelligent, and she got that way all on her own. Of course, aside from a little help from her professors growing up.

Helena was brilliant before she injected the Source Blood. In the immortal words of the Great Stan Lee, “Nuff said.”

Dana Scully

Gillian Anderson, The X-Files:

Well this one was bloody obvious, and since everyone expected it anyway,  here it is! And not without just cause, of course. Agent Scully had a head on her shoulders, perfectly complimented by her gorgeous red hair. Yes, yes I love redheads!

Kaylee Frye

Jewel Staite, Firefly/Serenity:

Every Rock-A-Billy boy’s dream girl, lovely and sweet, and could tune an engine for 30% more torque in less than an hour!

Tamara Johansen

Alaina Huffman, Stargate Universe:

1st Lt. Tamara Johansen is Beautiful, tough, smart and very capable. An SGC field medic, she took on the roll of ship’s Doctor after the death of the Icarus Base doctor in the pilot episode.

Dr. Martha Jones

Freema Agyeman, Doctor Who:

(We shall be reading this description in David Tennant’s voice) Lovely Martha Jones, she’s brilliant, rather likes guns, but brilliant! Martha was a fine Doctor, and worked with those blokes at UNIT she did, yea! Oh she’s lovely! Oi! Back to the TARDIS Mates, got LOADS of running to do! Cheers!

Dr. Beverly Crusher

Gates McFadden, Star Trek: The Next Generation:

Beverly has style, grace, poise, and could diagnose the jumpsuit off any Starfleet officer. The tap dancing didn’t hurt either.

Captain Janeway

Kate Mulgrew, Star Trek: Voyager:

Kathryn was a quick thinking, seat of the pants Starfleet Captain that could put you in your place and look fabulous doing it.

Willow Rosenberg

Alyson Hannigan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

Oh yes, that’s exactly what I said. Willow, adorable and unassuming, quiet and shy, strikingly clever. When she gets a bit dangerous, she’s downright sexy!

H. G. Wells

Jaime Murray, Warehouse 13:

Helena, the astonishing literary academician from the past, is as uncommonly beautiful as she is frighteningly and deviously cunning. Those eyes, and that sultry British dialect would melt away any unfounded inhibitions I might have left!

Elisabeth Sladen, 1 February 1946–19 April 2011

SARAH JANE SMITH

Elisabeth Sladen, The Sarah Jane Adventures / Doctor Who:

Our Captivating and lovable Sarah Jane, how we miss you Dear Lady! From your adventures with the Fourth Doctor, to your very own, and well deserved spin off show, you have captured our hearts forever. May you live eternally in our hearts, Oh yes, and K-9 say’s he misses his Mistress.
