Disney has set July 26, 2013 as the release date for Marvel’s ‘Thor 2’ according to Deadline.

‘Thor’ was released on May 6, 2011 and grossed over $437 million worldwide. It’s gross exceeded 4 of the 5 ‘X-Men’ films (except 2006′ X-Men: The Last Stand) meaning that Marvel definitely has another hit film franchise on their hands.

The Mighty Thor first in appeared in Marvel Comics’ “Journey Into Mystery” #83 in August of 1962. It was created by Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and Larry Lieber and has been a staple of the Marvel Universe ever since.

The first ‘Thor’ film, directed by Kenneth Branagh (‘Frankenstein’, ‘A Midwinter’s Tale’) and starring
Christopher Hemsworth (‘Star Trek’, ‘The Avengers’), Natalie Portman (‘Black Swan’, ‘Star Wars’ films), Anthony Hopkins (‘Dracula’, ‘Titus’), Tom Hiddleston (‘Midnight In Paris’), Kat Dennings (‘Defendor’, ‘American Dad’) and Renee Russo (‘Tin Cup’, ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’) finds the warrior Thor cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live among humans. Falling in love with scientist Jane Foster teaches Thor much-needed lessons, and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces toward Earth.

Hemsworth will portray ‘Thor’ in Marvel’s upcoming Joss Whedon directed ‘The Avengers’. Marvel has also set a summer release date for the next ‘Iron Man’ film. ‘Iron Man 3’ will hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
