Fox 2000 is producing a film entitled ‘The Passage’ and Matt Reeves has been selected to direct it, reports Deadline.  The adaptation of the best selling Justin Cronin novel, ‘The Passage’ tells the story of an experiment gone terribly wrong, creating a throng of bloodthirsty vampires that literally brings the world’s population to its knees.

Mike Fleming reported on the plot saying, “In ‘The Passage,’ a group of terminally ill cancer patients get healthy after being subjected to the bites of bats in South America. Naturally, the government sees this as a cure for the disease and starts experimenting. They end up with a legion of nearly indestructible, telepathic vampire masters that begin infecting the populace.”

Apparently the tone is more hardcore and reminiscent to ‘28 Days Later’ and ‘The Stand’ and less “sparkly vampire-like” as in the ‘Twilight’ saga.

Although there’s no word yet when production will even commence let alone be completed, there’s already been mixed reviews about this film.  Some readers on Deadline’s site have indicated that the book was less than interesting, which has caused them to already refuse to go see it once it’s released. Maybe the movie will be better than the book in this case – only time will tell.

In the meantime, stay tuned!  We’ll continue to bring you up-to-date news on this project as it becomes available.
