With all the zombie movies that have been made, why not add another to the list?  According to Deadline, Timur Bekmambetov bought ‘Maggie,’ a script that attracted six bidders.  Why did so many bidders come out of the woodwork?   Well, ‘Maggie’ can be produced on a very low budget – between $4 – 8 million.  This could be the perfect script for a zombie film with a ‘Paranormal Activity’ feel.

Mike Fleming from Deadline describes the script in this way: “Maggie is a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie. Much the way that Danny Boyle changed the lumbering zombie stereotype by speeding up the undead in ‘28 Days Later,’ ‘Maggie’ changes the lightning quick infection period evident in most zombie films, where victims become zombies in minutes. It will take six weeks for Maggie to turn, and the film tracks the transformation as she stays with her family. Trevor Kaufman will produce with Bekmambetov.”

So has the zombie storyline been exhausted or are viewers still hungry for more?  It sounds interesting, but I guess it’ll depend on how it’s written and produced as to whether or not it deserved the bidding war it created.
