Smallville’ took a darker-than-usual turn last night.  In “Masquerade” both Oliver and Clark are trying (unsuccessfully) to have an identity that will allow them to walk around during the day without being recognized.   Lois discovers a video of The Blur that’s going viral and people around the world are desperate to know who he is.  She tells Clark that he needs to come up with an identity that allows him to be seen and recognized by others when he’s saving lives.

In the meantime Oliver and Chloe are at a posh restaurant where they take the reservation of another couple – the Jones’ (reminiscent of the movie ‘Date Night’).  After dinner, Oliver is given the restaurant phone and discovers Mrs. Jones is on the other end. Distraught, she screams and quickly dies with Oliver hearing it all.

Upon leaving the restaurant the pair is mistaken for FBI agents and attacked by Desaad’s minions.  They escape and after doing some investigating, they’re led to a location that may hold more clues as to what’s going on.  While Oliver goes inside for a closer look, Chloe is kidnapped by Desaad.

Desaad tries (unsuccessfully) to infect Chloe with the darkness by using her friends against her and trying to get her to admit to (what appear to be) any one of the seven deadly sins.

Meanwhile Clark’s investigating a string of murders and, using his “microvision,” he sees insignias on the bodies which Lois confirms with crime scene photographs.  Both Clark and Oliver wind up at the same location – Clark saves Chloe while Desaad bombards him with darkness.  While this occurs Oliver finds Desaad downstairs and starts beating him to a pulp.  Clark fights off the darkness and gets Oliver to stop, telling him that contrary to what Desaad said, Chloe’s still alive.

Back at watchtower, the couple decides to leave for the night.  As Chloe walks out, Oliver turns off the computer monitors – and, as clear as day, the Omega insignia is shimmering in the light and is right in the middle of his forehead.

Afterward Clark tells Lois that his true identity – Clark Kent – will be the disguise.  He dons glasses and tones down his personality, and Lois is happy with what she sees.

Stay tuned for next week’s episode.  In “Fortune”  Zatanna sends a magically spiked bottle of champagne to Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) for their bachelor/bachlorette parties.  The gang blacks out after the toast, only to wake up the next morning and realize they can’t remember anything about the night before. While trying to retrace their steps, Lois realizes she lost her engagement ring and drags Oliver (Justin Hartley) back to the Fortune Casino where she thinks she lost it. The two run into Fortune (guest star James Kidnie), the eccentric casino owner, who accuses them of stealing money from him. Meanwhile, Clark tells Chloe (Allison Mack) he has a memory of stealing an armored truck the night before.
