SPOILER ALERT! With the release of Marvel Comics second-to-last issue of ‘The Fantastic Four’ (#587), Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, dies when he sacrifices himself to save the Earth leaving Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman and The Thing to carry on.

But don’t worry comic book fans in the comic book world there’s always a chance we’ll hear someone say, “flame on” again. Let’s just hope its not H.E.R.B.I.E.

FF series writer Jonathan Hickman decided to kill of one of the team’s member so he could delve into the pain felt by the three remaining team members. And issue #588 won’t be the last issue, Hickman will start a new story arc in March with FF #1. This series promises a new direction for Marvel’s First Family featuring new members, old friends, older enemies and uneasy alliance that will send shockwaves through the Marvel Universe.

The ‘Fantastic Four’ comic book was created in 1961 by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. Since then, it has been a staple for Marvel Comics spawning numerous television series, movies and toys.

Issue #588 will be in stores on February 23.
